Building an eCommerce Shabbat policy.

Decide what your online store does on Shabbat: pause checkout, defer payment capture, hold orders, show a respectful message, and release commerce flows after Havdalah.

  • Checkout: pause, read-only, or defer
  • Payments: delay capture, hold orders
  • Customer messaging during Shabbat
  • Controlled release after Shabbat

Define the policy first

Map each commerce flow — checkout, payment capture, receipts, fulfillment, and notifications — and decide whether it pauses, runs read-only, or defers. The policy comes before any technical change.

Communicate with care

Shoppers who arrive during Shabbat should see a warm, clear message that explains the pause, sets expectations on timing, and keeps trust — without losing the sale.

Release after Havdalah

When Shabbat ends, queued orders, payment captures, and receipts release in a controlled, auditable flow — so nothing is lost and customers are served in the order they arrived.
